Creating a Faculty Professional Development Agent in Co-Pilot Studio

This session will demonstrate how to create an agent in Co-Pilot Studio to engage faculty in professional development and assist them in creating coursework that aligns with high-impact, evidence-based practices. Specifically, the presenters will focus on how and why the chatbot was created and explain the collaborative efforts of engaging faculty in creating coursework that emphasizes critical thinking, universal design, TILT (Transparency in Learning and Teaching), and AI Literacy and Ethical Use. Attendees will gain practical insights for leveraging AI to support teaching excellence and student learning outcomes.

Speakers

Tom Grady, Faculty Director, Kansas City Kansas Community College

Tom Grady serves as the faculty director of the Institute for Teaching and Learning at Kansas City Kansas Community College. Tom has been involved with planning and coordinating faculty professional development for 18 years. He served as the faculty development coordinator at Johnson County Community College for 10 years. Tom was recognized as an Outstanding Faculty Member in 2003 and earned the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award in 2004 while at Allen Community College. He has earned the Certificate in Effective College Instruction through the Association of College University Educators (ACUE) and most recently earned the ChatGPT in Higher Education: Exploring Use Cases and Designing Prompts micro-credential through EDUCAUSE. Tom serves on the board of the Kansas City Professional Development Council (KCPDC) and presented at the Enhancing Teaching and Learning Conference titled Utilizing Generative AI to Create Coursework and Assignments.

Shadeed A. Khan, Assessment Coordinator, Kansas City Kansas Community College

Shadeed Khan is a higher education professional and researcher dedicated to expanding equitable access to high-quality higher education for all. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in International Studies, a Master of Science in Project Management, and is currently a PhD Candidate in Education Policy, Planning, and Leadership – bringing a multidisciplinary perspective to educational leadership, assessment, and institutional effectiveness. Through research, leadership, and student-centered advocacy, he strives to advance educational policies and practices that promote equity and access to high quality education for all, and high quality professional development for faculty members.
