Plan now to attend our conference as we celebrate SIDLIT’s 25th anniversary!
The conference will be a Face 2 Face and Hybrid online event.
We will have three days of online presentations, workshops and many topic-oriented special interest discussion groups, speakers, and demonstrations.
We are very excited to invite you to the Summer Institute for Distance Learning and Instructional Technology (SIDLIT “Side Light”) 2024 Annual Conference, which will be held on July 29-31, 2024 in Kansas City, Kansas. This year marks the 25th anniversary of SIDLIT, and we have prepared a special program to celebrate this milestone. For the first time ever, our physical location this year is: The University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC), 3901 Rainbow Blvd., Kansas City, KS, 66160 – or join us virtually!
The theme of SIDLIT 2024 is “Lensing the Past, Zooming In on the Present, Developing Future Passions for Learning.” We will explore together how we can use the lessons learned from the past, the challenges, opportunities and innovations of the present, and the emerging trends of the future to enhance our online learning and instructional design practices. We will also collaborate on how we can foster and activate a passion for lifelong learning among ourselves and our students.
SIDLIT 2024 will feature:
- Keynote speakers, a panel discussion with selected SIDLIT STARS, who will share their stories and experiences of attending SIDLIT over the last 25 years since 1999, and how it has impacted their professional development and career growth in 2024, and where our passions for learning and development will lead us for our next 25 years to 2049!
- A variety of concurrent sessions, workshops, and poster presentations, covering topics such as accessibility, assessment, AI, collaboration, engagement, gamification, multimedia, pedagogy, quality, and more.
- Lots of networking opportunities where you can connect with other SIDLIT attendees, speakers, sponsors, and organizers, and enjoy some refreshments and getting to know our passions for learning.
- A virtual option, where you can access the conference sessions and materials online and interact with the speakers and attendees via chat and video conferencing.
- Plus, our Awards Ceremony where you have nominated and recognized your peers for their outstanding Technical Support, Instructional Designer, Innovative Teaching and Outstanding Leadership contributions.
SIDLIT 2024 is a great opportunity for you to learn from and network with other professionals in online learning and pedagogies, educational technology, training & development, and instructional design. Whether you are new to SIDLIT or a veteran attendee, you will find something valuable and relevant for your personal and professional growth.

Conference Registration
Conference Costs: The conference is $75 for in-person participation for the three days and includes a box lunch on Wednesday, July 31. Virtual registration is $50. Some events may be subject to limited seating. Click the link below to register.
